How many ml of penicillin do you give your dog for ear infection?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Amoxicillin is the most common antibiotic in the penicillin class prescribed to dogs and cats for treating bacterial infections. Taken orally the dosage range is 10-20 mg/kg, divided into 2 doses daily for dogs and 3 doses daily for cats.

Different penicillins have different half lives in people and in dogs, so it's best to ask a veterinarian for advice, even when you plan to treat the dog yourself.

Penicillins kills bacteria by not letting them build a proper cell wall while they grow. But only take or give penicillin if you must because bacteria including Staphylococci can build resistance to this drug. They actually learn how to alter a molecular component of the antibiotic to make it ineffective!

Penicillin tablets and capsules can be stored at room temperature. Oral liquids in solution must be refrigerated and stay good for 14 days.

This drug works best if given 1 hour before feeding or 2 hours after. If stomach upset occurs penicillins may be given with food.

How to make an ear infection feel better at home?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

A hot water bottle wrapped in a soft cloth or under your pillow case will help. Warmth to the ear canal often soothes, try a small amount of heat rub like Tiger balm or A535 just under the ear and down under the jawline (not too much) The warmth radiates into the ear canal and settles things down.

Another simple remedy for an ear infection has worked for us and our children every time: one drop of garlic oil/clear garlic juice in half a teaspoon of warm oil (olive, almond, something natural) poured directly into the ear. Massage under the ear to make sure it penetrates into the canal fully.

Also if you continually drink white milk, it brings comfort.

What is the cause of shooting pain behind right ear?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You have sinuses all over your head and behind the ears, jaw line, temple area are your main areas of feeling pains of twitches, shallow aches, or sporadic pain. These areas are very small sinuses and it is hard for these areas to drain unlike the nose. The pain could be sinus related - even if you have never suffered sinuses we all have them in some degree - Your body changes every seven years and for some people they get new symptoms that they have never experienced and lose others. The sinuses behind the ear/back of neck are so small that for them to drain it would be like taking a straw and filling the straw with water then putting your finger on it to stop it from dripping. It would take a long time for the straw to discharge all the water. This is exactly what your sinuses are going through. If you are still worried then see a doctor, but you may want to try sinus medication or sinus headache relief medicine first.

Herbal or homeopathy treatment for perforated Ear drum?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Calendula, arnica, hepar sulphur and silicea are some homeopathic remedies that are used in the case of a perforated ear drum. Hypericum is also recommended for pain, and arnica esp in the case of a rupture due to an injury. If there is draining, pulsatillia is often indicated. (Pulsatilla should not be used during pregnancy, as it stimulates the break down of mucous, and therefore would soften the mucous plug before it would naturally happen at the onset of labor.)Homeopathic remedies stimulate your body's healing responses; in effect encouraging it to do what it is meant to do. There are no side effects to these remedies; they can be used in conjunction with other medications, except steroids, which will render them useless. To determine what remedy is best suited to your individual case, you must take into account a number of factors and, after analysis, choose the remedy which best matches your situation.

How do you fix ear infection?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Between your middle ear and your throat there is a passage called the eustachian (say: yoo-stay-she-un) tube. The eustachian tubes (you have one on each side) keep pressure from building up by letting air move in and out of your middle ear. When you were young, especially before you turned 3, the eustachian tubes were very small and less able to keep germs out.

The eustachian tubes get longer and usually work better in older kids, but they can still cause problems. If you have allergies or catch a cold, the eustachian tubes can get blocked up and let germs get in the middle ear. Then the number of germs can grow inside your middle ear and cause an infection.

You do not catch ear infections from other people, though you might catch a cold that then leads to an ear infection. If you have an ear infection, you might have ear pain, a fever, or trouble hearing. If you have any of these problems, tell your parent so he or she can take you to the doctor.
You might be talking about ear piercing infections, or just a regular ear infection, but I will try to answer both.

For ear piercing: MOST PEOPLE DON'T CLEAN THEIR HANDS BEFORE TOUCHING OR DOING ANYTHING WITH THEIR EARRINGS. That's how most people's earring holes get infected, so always wash your hands before doing anything with your earrings! Also, some people might have sensitive ears, and you get the wrong type of earrings when you get your ears pierced. (That's what happened to me). Or, when you are allowed to take your earrings out, some people will like keep only the cheap earrings in, which is not the best idea if you have sensitive ears because those are not hypoallergenic earrings.

General Ear infections: to much ear wax in your ears without cleaning it out can cause an ear infection, but that's the only reason I really know of...sorry!

  • Ear can be infected when it continuously or frequently gets wet with water.
  • Infection is also possible if you are suffering from cold (or sinus) for a long time.
  • Sometimes, tooth infection and throat infection may also cause ear infection.
  • Ear infection can also be caused by any foreign substance entering the ear.

Ear, Nose and Throat have a very close relation. Moreover, they are interconnected either directly or indirectly. So, infection of any one of these may lead to the infection of others.
