User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Listing a marriage in a newspaper under marriage licenses typically means that the couple has obtained the legal paperwork required to get married, but it does not necessarily confirm that they have completed their marriage ceremony. To officially be considered legally married, the couple must solemnize their marriage in accordance with the laws of their jurisdiction.

What documents do you need to obtain a marriage license in North Carolina?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

First of all, you probably need to be of the opposite sexes. Although this may change soon, I doubt it has changed yet, at least not in North Carolina. In addition, you need: • Age: If you are sixteen or seventeen, you will need to show parental consent. I assume written consent is good enough (I got married at sixteen in California, it was, ah, a mistake, but I understand enough about this question to put this part of the answer first). You cannot get married if you are under age fourteen although, in North Carolina, if you are between the ages of fourteen and fifteen you can marry--but only with a Court Order. My recommendation? Don't get one. And if you're sixteen--think. I know wherefrom I speak. Regardless, you must show proof of your age, fourteen to a hundred and fourteen. • Residence: Nope, don't need to be a resident to marry there. • Previous Marriages: If you were, you need to show legal proof that you no longer are. • Waiting Period: You can do it tomorrow! (See "don't," above.) • Exams? Nope, no blood tests, no physical. The world, at least in North Carolina, has gone simple. • You can marry your cousin, but no closer than your first cousin. My mother was a doctor, my mother's parents were first cousins. I am not laughing. Okay. Miscellaneous: You need two witnesses; any legal officiant can officiate; it costs fifty bucks; there are, surprisingly, no common law marriages in NC. Anything else, try NC Vital Records (919) 733-3526. And, by the way, Good Luck.

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You can marry but there will be so many problems, as the marriage will raise questions and immigration may ask you fiance many questions and they may feel that she lied with them to get to US. It is better if you apply for K1 visa for her, as soon as she is here you need to marry her within 90 days. After getting married she can apply for Green Card.

What if you get married in Arkansas but don't have a marriage license?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You will need to get the marriage license first before having the wedding ceremony. Both parties must apply together at the County Clerk's Office. Applicants must be 18 years or older without parental consent. Minors will need both parents to apply with them.

You will need your social security card or documents with your ss number on it and valid photo ID, such as a drivers license, passport, certified copy of birth certificate, or military ID.

The license can be used immediately or within 60 days. It can be used anywhere in the State of Arkansas, but must be returned to the County Clerk's Office where you obtained the license within 60 days for recording.

The minister's credentials must be recorded with a County Clerk's Office prior to your wedding ceremony. If a Justice of the Peace performs the ceremony, then the JP enters the County of jurisdiction and words "Justice of the Peace, District #" under his/her signature.

Best of Luck!

The marriage is not "official" and thereby not recognized by the state if a marriage license is not issued and duly signed by the pastor and witnesses ... in other words, yes, it would be illegal and in the eyes of the church, could constitute "living in sin!"
