Ancestry.com is a site where you can research your family tree. As for telling you instantly if your friend is indeed a relative no it cannot do that. But with some time and research you can figure out yours and his/hers genealogy and see if your family tree branches connect.

Yes, there are genealogy websites that provide information for free and I'll give you a few examples below. Also, check with your LDS Family History Center or public library. They may provide no-cost access to some subscription genealogy websites if you visit their facilities. www.familysearch.org www.rootsweb.com http://www.freebmd.org.uk/ The GenWeb sites (do a search for a county, state and "genweb") I suppose it depends on what you are researching and what you are trying to do. Are you just starting your research? It can make a difference if you are searching US 19th century, Ireland 18th century, American Indian, African American, and so on. At some point it may be beneficial if you were to subscribe to something like Ancestry.com ( http://ancestry.com/ ) -- they do have a free 14 day trial offer. You just have to weigh the cost of the subscription against the benefits of accessing certain databases online. Perhaps it's more economical, or efficient, right now than taking vacation and incurring the expenses of going to the US National Archives in Washington DC, or the LDS library in Salt Lake City, for example. There are free things available - for example searching the US Social Security Death Index ( http://www.cyndislist.com/socsec.htm ) or the Personal Ancestral File (PAF) is a free genealogy and family history program ( http://www.familysearch.org ); as well as the sites mentioned in the previous answer. There are also volunteer projects that might be helpful to you. There re several referenced on the RootsWeb home page. Assuming you are conducting some US research, you may already know that there are regional US National Archives with free access, perhaps one is close to where you live. Also some public libraries have free access to genealogical materials. Depending on where and when you are researching, there may be a wealth of information freely available.

Kindred Konnections is a good site for that. I do transcribing for them and earn 1 free hour with them and you can do as many as you want. To get into the membership section you have to pay but if you do the transcribing(census pages,typing out names)you can use that 9one of your hours) to get into the paid section and search.

You must go to libraries and archives and look for records about them such as birth certificates, death certificates, marriage records, court records, obituaries, etc. This requires that you know something about some of them before you begin. For that ask your parents, grandparents older cousins, aunts and uncles. Some searching can be done on the Internet but you still need that basic information first.

See if your local public library subscribes to Ancestry.com and/or Heritage Quest online. Ancestry is almost a must, and if your library has it you can access it while inside your library for free with a library card.

Heritage Quest (ProQuest) has less, but you can see some census schedules there and more. Unlike the library version of Ancestry.com HQ is accessible from your home using your library card bar code for entry.

You might also look at the other free online sites, such as rootsweb.com, cyndi's list, family search, etc. You can also search for a state name+genweb to see some local info it the county or state has it online. You might also try typing in the county and state + genealogy to see what comes up.

In case your parents don't know too much about it, as in adoptions and things like that, i would recommend going to your local library. They should have some local family histories, and books on how to find yours.

I assume that you are asking about indexing for FamilySearch.org, the genealogy website that is operated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church). (Indexing really has nothing to do with the religion at all)

In order to begin indexing you just need to visit indexing.familysearch.org and click on the "Get Started" button. This will lead you through the step-by-step process of downloading the free indexing application to your computer and it will give you an option to participate in an online presentation about how to use the application and the rules of indexing. If you don't have a computer you can go to a Family History Center operated by the church and use the application on their computers.

Once you have downloaded the application and learned how to use it, the process is simple. You select which records you would like to index from a list, and then the record will appear on the top half of your screen while you fill in the digital form on the bottom half of the screen. When you are done, you submit the record and it will soon be available for users of FamilySearch.org to see!

That depends on what type of indexing you are doing, what software you are using, and who you are working for. In some indexing programs, you definitely can write over the existing name and record what you see, and your indexing results get saved separately for someone to resolve. In other systems you cannot overwrite, but you can only approve or deny, or write something different in a separate exception field.

Perhaps the answer can be found in reading about the heroic life of Kitsos Tzavelas, Greek fighter and Prime Minister? Tzavelas was born in Souli, Epirus in 1800, the son of Fotos Tzavelas and grandson of Lambros Tzavelas, both of whom were famous for their roles in the Souliot struggles against Ali Pasha, the Turkish governor of Epirus. He grew up in exile in Kerkyra. Tzavelas played a leading role in the Greek War of Independence in 1821, distinguishing himself especially during the siege of Messolonghi. After the arrival in Greece of Ioannis Kapodistrias, during the latter part of the war, Tzavelas was responsible for liberating a large part of Central Greece. After indepedence, Tzavelas became a supporter of Kapodistria and eventually a leader in the Russian Party which was the conservative and arch-Orthodox political faction in the period of King Otto. Accused of planning a revolt against the king in 1834, Tzavelas was imprisoned by the Regency Council head by von Armansperg along with other politicians of the Russian Party.
