What is the advantage of cloning for farmers?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Cloning can help farmers reproduce high-quality livestock or crops with desirable traits quickly and efficiently. This can lead to improved yields, disease resistance, and overall productivity on the farm. Additionally, cloning can help ensure a consistent supply of superior genetic material for breeding purposes.

Can you clone a bird?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

At this point the only animals that are being cloned are mammals. Birds have a more complex system than mammals. Because science is progressing by leaps and bounds, perhaps in the near future birds can be successfully cloned.

Is asexual reproduction the same as cloning?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Depending on how you make them. I have a theory humans can not be fabricated, we are special, and even if we do make a clone, it won't be like us, because it won't have soul. So, I don't think that clones, if possible to make more children that are human with sex. The children, I think, may have birth defects, and I do't think that's worth it, but that's what i think.

Yes i think cloning is asexual in the sense that an entire organism is produced from a single cell and the offspring produced also know as the clone is identical in every sense eg Genes. an example of a clone is a form OS asexual reproduction in lower organisms like Bacteria, vegetative propagation in plants etc.

How could cloning help save endangered animals?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Cloning may be a quick fix to increase the number of individuals. However, numbers are not everything. What is more important to small population sizes is genetic diversity, in other words the amount of genetic variation that exists within a population. Populations with significant reduction in genetic diversity will have a drastically increased likelihood of producing offspring with a recessive genetic disorder (the same reason why inbreeding in humans will likely result in some problem with the child). Besides this, genetic diversity allows populations to adapt in the event of a strong environmental change (e.g. climate change). In other words, if the environment changes, diversity makes it likely at least some of the individuals are adapted to survive.

Is cloning of crop plants in tissue culture ethical?

What are some advantages of cloning extinct mammals such as the mammoth?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You can clone them if you have the DNA and a suitable host mother a close match to the original species. It would be exciting to see a live mammoth...

The biggest advantage to bringing animals back would be to fill niches in the ecosystem that they once inhabited. There are many ecosystems around the world where extinct animals have left holes in the ecosystem which mean that it ceases to function properly. One such instance in the eradication of the large predators in the UK.

Many of these holes could be filled by reintroducing animals from otehr parts of their range where they still exist.

Animals such as the mammoth (more possible as they tended to die in extremely cold places so often some genetic material is left in the body) could be reintroduced into Siberia to fulfill the niche that they evolved to fill

When can a plant pollinate itself?

User Avatar

Asked by Jhunt75

No - pollination requires the presence of both pollen (male contribution from anthers) and ovules (female contribution from the pistil). Imperfect flowers have flowers with either male organs or female organs, not both. As a result, they require cross-pollination to produce seeds.

What are some of the moral and ethical concerns about cloning?

User Avatar

people say cloning animals the animals could all be killed by the same diseases because they are all the same.

if they are being used for food people say its not not the nutrients of real meat.

for some people they seen it as against nature and god.

Is it possible to produce better farm animals by cloning?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Cloning animals is a difficult process but many animals have been cloned. The most infamous one was Dolly the sheep and she was cloned in 1997. Although there has seemed to be a lower life expectancy in animals that have been cloned due to cancer.

What is the history of cloning?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The first thing to be cloned was a animal. It was created by Hans Dreisch in the late 1800's. He cloned a goat. Dreich's original goal was not to create identical animals, but to prove that genetic material is not lost during cell division. In 1902, another scientist, embryologist Hans Spemman, used a hair from his infant son as a knife to separate a 2-celled embryo of a salamander, which also grow externally. He later separated a single cell from a 16-celled embryo.

What are the advantages and disadvantages in cloning a animal?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

ADVANTAGES:

  • protecting endangered animal
  • helping infertile couples
  • same desired characteristics
  • provide organs for transplantation

DISADVANTAGES:

  • inheriting diseases
  • lead to less opportunity to create new varieties in the future
  • losing gene diversity

Is cloning illegal?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The disscussions of cloning are still very vague. It is well known that the cloning of human beings is illegal, due to religious problems. On the other hand the cloning of plants and animals is legal.

Why are cloning plants important?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Well, recently cloning has been attempted only for copying specific organs, not necessarily whole human beings. This is important because the cloning of specific organs can completely obliterate the need to transplant organs and would guarantee 100% compatibility. This has been considered immoral on some counterparts because the stem cells needed to follow through with cloning require stem cells.
