∙ 10y agoGeorge Washington was born in Virginia which became part of the US but was a British subject when he was born because Virginia was British soil at his birth, as were all the first 7 presidents.
John Tyler was the first to be born after independence was gained by the American Revolution and the ratification of the Constitution officially established the "United States of America".
Martin Van Buren was the first to be born after July 4, 1776 when independence was declared, but before the United States was formed.
