The probable reason that you can't reinstall it is that part of it broke off and fell away. This is a common replacement item. Get it from the Lexus dealer for a few bucks. If necessary look at another similar Lexus' gas door in their used car collection for reference then replace yours. Might need a screw driver or pliers. Easy fix.
