∙ 12y agotechnically there are two semilunar valves. the aortic semilunar valve is what oxygen rich blood is pumped through from left ventricle to the rest of the body. blood is pumped from the right ventricle through the pulmonary semilunar valve to the lungs to receive oxygen through the pulmonary arteries. (even though it is oxygen poor blood, arteries BY DEFINITION carry blood away from heart and veins return blood to the heart).

∙ 10y agoThe aortic semilunar valves function is to close the left ventricle of the heart so the blood does not flow backwards into the heart. It is the one, with its partner the pulmonary semilunar valve, that makes the softer 'dupp' sound in the heartbeat.
