The gap is 0.060 inches, and the plug is an AC type 41-940. The plug gap is the space between the metal tip of the center electrode and the electrode attached to the side of the metal part that screws into the engine. It is checked with a spark plug gap gauge and there are a few different varieties available. They normally have instructions on how to use them. Probably the best to use is the one that is tapered numbered surface, and you start it into the gap at the thinner area, and you slide the plug gap onto the thicker part with out forcing it and you read the number on the gauge that is at the spot where the gap is just a little snug with out forcing it.

The iridium plugs that have replaced the platinum plugs, do not require gaping. They come pre-gaped. These long life plugs are coated and any gaping process may disrupt the coating causing premature plug failure. Replace the plugs at 80 -100,000 miles with AC Delco Iridiums. Check the plugs and ensure the protective sleeve is in place that protects the factory gap.

A Wire came off a spark plug in our 2000 Pontiac Montana and it seems the plug is also broke in there how do you get to the plugs it is now running on 5 cylinders badly do you remove the alternator?

If the spark plug is cracked and will not turn out on a 2000 Pontiac Montana, a person might have to remove the manifold to get at the plug. Removing the alternator can also help but if the plug is stuck, the manifold will have to come off to get the plug out.
