What role did nationalism play in causing World War 1?
This was a role of nationalism as in men wanted to fight for their countries and show their loyalty. Nationalism in WW1 was mainly in the Austria-Hungary empire. They ruled over 11 different nationalities, all of whom wanted their freedom to be their own country, no more so than Serbia, who had just defeated the Turks. A serbian nationalist named Princip shot Archduke Franz Ferdinand (the heir to the throne) and his pregnant wife Sophie. This is thought to be the match that lit the dynamite for WW1.

Asked in Science, Technology
When has nationalism led to scientific and technological advancements and revolutions?
Usually, nationalism per se has not led to scientific or technological advancement. Typically, when a nationalist group asserts power, they invest in regions of the country that historically have not received a high level of investment, especially when those areas are considered the backwater of a different empire. As a result, those areas begin to be more productive than previously. Greee and Israel were relatively unproductive areas under Ottoman control, but when those areas were brought under the control of nationalists, there began to be much more investment and development of regional technologies and scientific developments. As for revolutons, nationalism has led to numerous revolutions. Most of the independence wars in the Balkans that led to an independent Serbia, Greece, Albania, Bulgaria, etc. were nationalist revolutions. The unifications of Germany and Italy were nationalist revolutions. The fights for the establishment of Israel, the creation of modern Arab States, and the development of Thailand from Siam are all nationalist revolutions outside of Europe.

What is a nationalist?
A Nationalist Is Someone Who Comes From Another Country! Well That's What I Found Put! Hope This Has Helped!=] A nationalist is someone who takes pride in there country. Actually a Nationalist is the complete opposite of what the above poster stated. A Nationalist is a very broad term, and Nationalist come in all shapes, colors, ethnic background, etc. I can not speak for every Nationalist because we may have different viewpoints, but we can all agree on one thing.... Asia is for Asians, Africa/Haiti is for Africans ( Blacks) Europe is for Europeans, and the U.S should be for Whites with European decent.

What is the Role of nationalism ethnicity ideology and religion in the building of Southeast Asian regions in the post World War 2 era?
Learn how to use a search engine and find out yourself. Of course then you would have to learn to think for yourself, so that could be a bit dangerous. I would suggest your actually learn what nationalism, ethnicity and ideology refer to, and find some examples from post WWII S/E Asia. You could focus on different countries that have had different experiences, but ones that were often motivated and caused by similar issues relation to nationalism, ethnicity, ideology and religion. You would find a lot of stuff on Indonesia, Vietnam, Burma and/or Cambodia. Some topics and search terms to get you started S/E Asia Pre-1945 (you will need to set some type of context as to where the ideologies and nationalist movements came from. "Japanese imperialism" and "World War Two" "European colonialism" and "South East Asia" "Vietnam" and "French" "Burma" and "British" or "Britain" "Indonesia" and "Dutch" Nationalism, Ethnicity, Ideology, Religion (I would search these following terms by including either Indonesia, Burma, Myanmar, Vietnam within each search you do) Communism Fascism Burmese Junta Islam Javanese Indonesia separatists East Timor Vietnam War East Asian indigenous populations Pol Pot If you have any hope of answering this question in any real detail you would need to be bothered finding out about at least the things listed above and then becoming knowledgable in these things and then putting together this knowledge to develop your own answer to the question. Very briefly - All of these countries are former colonies of different European countries. This means they were controlled by different European countries. This history of colonisation led to nationalist movements in these regions. The nationalist movements sought their countries' independence from the countries that had colonised them. However, different nationalist movements adopted different ideologies (communism was a common ideology) These countries also shared the experience of being invaded and occupied by the Japanese in world war two. This was a particularly brutal occupation. Vietnam's defining experience in the post World War 2 era would be the war there, as well as the Independence movement/s that preceded it. Indonesia was united by a nationalist movement under a leader called Sukarno. He was replaced by a guy called Surharto, who ran Indonesia as basically a military dictatorship. The main Indonesia ethnic group is the Javanese. Other ethnic groups have been absorbed into Indonesia, and in some cases have become persecuted minorities and/ or involved in resitstance movements themselves. These include places like East Timor, West Papua and Aceh. More recently Islamist groups have sought to challenge authority in Indonesia. I could go on to give you some background on Burma and Cambodia, but you could also work it out for yourself.
