Take the tire off.
Remove the dust cap from the center of the hub. take pliers and turn it (it isn't threaded).
if you have a cover under that, remove it. if not.....don't.
remove the cotter pin. (DO NOT reuse this. you will need to buy a new one)
remove the nut.
remove the toothed washer.
PULL
you will have to change the bearings after removing the hub. it is almost impossible to remove the hub without damaging the bearings.
under the passenger side rear seat.
Not unless you also change the wheel hub. This might require a complete rebuild of the rear axle.
The front wheel bearing is a sealed unit with the wheel hub - replace the hub and wheel bearing unit. Remove the four bolts from the rear of the steering knuckle that connect to the hub bearing unit.
GO OUT AND BUY A 95 2.0 MANUAL JETTA. GOING FROM MANUAL TO AUTO IS CHEAP...GOING FROM AUTO TO MANUAL IS EXPENSIVE$$$$$$

i had problems in my 95 to but you have to remove the steering wheel in order to get the switch off
