I have a 1976 CJ5 with a 304 V8. It has a 3 speed transmission and stock axles. But I'm running 36'' tires. And i get around 9 mile to the gallon.
The gas goes to the piston chamber not the spark plug. Is your fuel pump working and if so are the jets blocked.
Does it have spark?, Compression? Timing?
I have a 1980 CJ5 with a 4.2 and after driving 6149 miles over a 1 year period, I used 378.7 gallons of gas. This will calculate out to a 16.2 MPG average.
Simple your not getting spark from the spark plugs. i recomend getting someone that knows how to check for spark because there is a lot of items you have to check.
YES
check for spark
More than likely your fuel filter is getting clogged up. Usually when a vehicle stumbles when you apply more gas it has either a clogged fuel filter, air filter, or exhaust pipe.
Basic first step diagnostics: Check for spark, check for gas then figure out (usually by tracing backwards) why you are not getting it (spark/gas).
Is it getting gas? Spark? Did you pump the gas pedal while you were starting/cranking the motor?
Timing, wires Timing, wires
if it just sputters and runs the battery down, it is not getting gas or could not be getting spark. the fuel pump could be bad. disconnect it at the fuel filter below the driver's door, have someone turn it over to see if it spits gas. no spark; pull a spark plug, leave it in the wire and turn it over to see if the spark plug sparks.
