I have Mercury Mountaineer 4x4 03 had grinding noise easy fix remove the shaft which connects the transmission to the rear end
I'm having the same problem. 98 Mountaineer. I think it's wheel bearing or possibly c/v joint. it sounds like a shredding almost, or grinding noise + squeak in the driver side front wheel hub.
SOUNDS LIKE THE WARE INDICATOR ON THE PADS CUTTING INTO THE ROTORS. CHANGE THE PADS, MIGHT BE A WHEEL BEARNG GOING BAD
