A very high percentage of people that are infected with the HIV virus develope aids. There are a few exceptions. There are some people that develope aids that do not have the HIv virus and vice versa.
The test for HIV is not the same as testing for AIDS. The percentages are so high though that they use the HIV test as an indicator.

HIV itself is a disease. It soon becomes AIDS and destroys the immune system. HIV is an STD. HIV or AIDS does not kill you by itself. However, it lets diseases in the body so easily that that even the common cold could kill a person easily. Since the immune system is destroyed from the disease, the body cannot fend for itself when a virus enters the body. That's also why most HIV or AIDS sufferers usually stay in the hospital for extended periods of time.
