Note that weasel-word: "claimed". That does not prove even reliable observation let alone existence. People have tried scientifically to find if there is some unknown species of large animal in the Loch but apart perhaps from one rather odd underwater photograph and a report of a peculiar sonar trace, nothing has ever been found. The Loch does not help searching. It is some 22 miles long, and up to about 900feet deep, and the water is dark with peat even in the shallows.
