Where is the crank shaft sensor located on a 1997 Buick Riviera?

it is to the right side of the crank shaft pulley it will have a connector to it held on by two bolts. you have to pull the crank pulley first. use a three hole puller, called a chicken foot, because it looks like a chicken foot. there will be little holes in the face of the pulley. the bolts needed will be 6mm about 4in long. the pulley will come off, remove the plastic piece covering the sensor and replace. do not pry on the pulley, it is easy to bend the teeth behind it, and it must be able to pass through the ridges on the new sensor. make sure it is the crank sensor you need to change before doing all this and not the cam shaft sensor, just above the crank sensor, they will both give the same problem. No spark. good luck.

How do you lock engine on a car with automatic transmission?

Not sure what your doing but you can use a strap wrench around the bottom pulley to hold the crank from turning.

How do you replace the crankshaft pulley on a 1991 Chevy S-10 4.3L?

Disconnect the battery and remove the fan assembly and crankshaft belts. Remove the center bolt from the pulley and use a crankshaft pulley remover to pull off the pulley. You can usually borrow one from an auto parts store.

Where is the crank sensor located in a 2002 Santa Fe with a 2.4L engine?

it is behand the plate on the bottom pulley The crank sensor is located behind the timing and balance shaft belts. depending on condition/age of belts, you may want to consider replacing them both. Note: if you plan on doing this repair yourself you'll need to research how to properly align the oil pump pulley.

How do you remove crankshaft harmonic pulley for 2004 Nissan xterra v-6?

You will need to first drain and remove the radiator to give clearance. Then, you have to loosen and remove all three accessory belts. Also, you will need a 2 or 3 jaw gear puller. Remove the bolt holding the pulley on by using a large breaker bar. To do this, you will have to put the emergency brakes on HARD. Then, using the puller, remove the crankshaft pulley. If you are doing this to change your timing belt, you will have to remove a bunch of other stuff. Good luck.

How do you remove the cam cover on a '97 Grand Am Gt 2.4L Twin Cam?

It's not as easy as it should be - you have to remove all of the obvious stuff to gain access to the cover from the top. Remove serpentine belt. Jack up passenger front wheel, secure with jack stands. Remove the splash shield to gain access to the crank pulley, remove that pulley, loosen all of the timing cover bolts. Put the crank pulley retaining bolt back on crank and use it to rotate engine to top dead center (align little dots on crank and case). Then mark the chain where it meets the two cam sprockets, remove the chain tensioner (lower on the engine, near the crank). Next, remove the two cam sprockets from the cams. Then the trick is to remove all the bolts in the face of the timing cover that hold it to the block plus loosen the nuts that hold the water pump (under the exhaust manifold) to the timing cover. Don't remove the nuts entirely or you'll have trouble getting them started again (at least the one nearest the engine block). With the water pump loose enough, you should have enough clearance to get the cam cover off the top of the cam housing. You can do all of this without removing any of the engine mounts, but you will have to work with the timing cover to find just the position that it will go up over the mount and allow you to work inside the timing chain housing. I'd recommend getting a Chilton's manual - what I've stated is not working line for line from that book, but what I've figured out by using that book as a reference and doing a bit of experimenting.

What type of energy does a pulley require?

A pulley on its own does not require any energy, as it's not doing anything.

How do you replace crank sensor on 2002 Kia Optima?

The crankshaft position sensor is located under the lower timing belt cover, behind the timing belt on the forward section of the motor. To access it you must remove the power steering pump, timing covers, waetr pump pulley, and crank pulley. Then the timing belt. The cable is fastened to the timing back-up plate behind the power steering pump. It connects on the left side of the fuel rail behind the head at the top. One thing to know is that you will have to keep your cams aligned when you remove timing belt, also you have to have all the components lined up before you remove timing belt, very very important. to keep cams aligned i used two socket wrenches with a block of wood between them for that. This is a pretty tough job so make sure you know what your doing.

How do you replace crank sensor on 2000 impala?

I am actually doing one now. You take the frnt pass. Tire of remove the plastic splash guard and you will see the crankshaft pulley. Getting the center bolt undone is hard but i use a breaker bar and appropriate fitting socket. The motor when running turns clockwise so wedge the breaker bar on either a concrete block or up against the control arm and crank the motor for one second at a time until it breaks the bolt free. Be sure to remove your ign. Relay so the engine wont run. And if you use this proc. BE CAREFUL and DO NOT have anyone stand around the breaker bar. Ive never heard of or seen anyone get hurt with this method but CAN be VERY dangerous if the breaker bar were to come of and be flung. After the bolt is lose take it out and use a wheel puller to remove the crank pulley. Wedge a broom handle in between the bolts attaching the wheel puller to the crank pulley and turn and turn until the pulley comes off. Use short bolts to attach the puller to the pulley.... Trust me use long ones and it will bind up against the body. Once removed you will see a banana shaped object with two 8mm bolts hoding it to the block. Remove those and bam its off. After you trace your way to the harness connector. Should be up behind the ac comp. Or power steering. Didnt look at it enough to know. Install is pretty much revers of removal. Pretty simple job actually and the cps is always a prob with 2000 to 2005 impalas.

Out of car method. Remove the head and sump Undo the con rods from the crank, then slide the con rod & piston out. In car method. Drain the coolant Remove the cylinder head(s) Raise the car. Drain the oil Remove the sump. Undo the con rods from the crank. Push up the piston and con rod assembly. On some vehicles it is not possible to remove the sump in situation. A good home workshop manual will be a real help in doing this job.
