I have a 1996 class A with a 460 and the circuit for the OD switch ( in the end of the shift handle) comes thru the T-signal circuit. My problem was the wires pinched where it leaves the shift handle and steering column met and shorted out both OD switch and Turn signals. That could be a good place to start looking, you do not have to remove the steering wheel to work on it.

On most of the newer transmissions a electric selonoid is what engages and disengages overdrive and if you havent noticed there is a button on the end of the shift lever on the steering column also there is a fuse have you checked to see if it is blown.

There are 4 bolts at the bottom of the steering column that tend to get loose after entering and exiting your vehicle. Pulling your self up on the steering wheel puts stress the steering column and causes it to become loose.
