I had the same problem on my 01 XL7. My Mechanic spent 3 hrs tracing the wiring schematic, and discovered that the Rear window defogger switch had a short that backfed power to the daytime running lights when the ignition was off and the defogger was on. Bill is about 400 bucks, mostly labor, but he earned it.
