5th Avenue is the main vein of NYC. So the above address (57 West 40th St) is on 40th St, West of 5th Ave. If the address were 157 West 40th St, it'd be West of 6th Ave. If 257 West 40th St, it'd be West of 7th Ave, etc.
But what if the address is on an Avenue? I'm still trying to figure that out. However, it looks like the numbers just start at the village (for example 5 9th Avenue is at the spot that Greenwich St becomes 9th Ave) and just goes up from there. Does anyone have a way of figuring out where 527 9th Ave is?
