There is evidence that eating GMO foods has a negative effect on human and animal health. Some concerns are that they cause immune system and organ failure, Chron's disease, Allergies, Asthma, and infertility. Some studies have linked GMOs to cancer, though those studies have been questioned.

The process used in genetic engineering may cause unpredicted changes to the DNA that result in harmful effects.

Whether GMOs are safe or not is not really known. While some say scientific studies show that they are safe, others say there is evidence that they have negative consequences to health, cause damage to the environment, etc.

We do know that they cross pollinate organically grown crops and that there are other issues associated with their use.

No. Every single independent study people have conducted on the impact of genetically modified food shows that it causes infertility, immune system failure, holes in the GI track, multiple organism failure, and damages organs. However, large GMO corporations have infiltrated governments (such as America) to pass all health and safety tests and sell their GM crops, unknowingly using people as guinea pigs as they are being subjected to the effects of genetically engineered foods.

Is organic food the opposite of GM food?

Organic and GM food is not exactly opposite, but foods that are grown and sold as "100% organic" cannot intentionally contain GMOs. It is possible, though, that cross pollination of GMOs with organic crops of the same kind could happen unintentionally.

Does cheerios contain GMOs?

Why wouldn't Cheerios contain GM corn? Currently, U.S. food makers are not required to label their products as GM, non-GM, Organic, etc. Generally, beyond the mandatory USDA nutrition/ ingredients label, any other label that is placed on the package is done voluntarily. I have heard many claim that Cheerios contains GM ingredients, I have yet to hear someone claim otherwise.
