Macbeth and Macduff both were brave, hard workers who did their jobs well. But they otherwise were different. Specifically, Macbeth didn't compare at all well with Macduff. Macbeth thought of rewards and promotions. Macduff thought of loyal service to his sovereign. Macbeth became impatient and wanted to hasten his predicted royal future along. Macduff was patient and willing to take his time organizing a successful invading force. Macbeth was deceitful, duplicitous, hypocritical, and treacherous to king and country. Macduff was straightforward, respectful, and honest. For Macbeth, his ambition justified cruel, treacherous means. For Macduff, his honor demanded honorable means.

compare and contrast Macbeth, Macduff, and banquo

First Banquo and Macduff are both loyal subjects to the king. They are both brave soldiers and both are highly regarded king's men. They both are fathers too who cherish their children. MacDuff however is constantly called the "good Macduff" in the play and was never tainted to have any tendency for greed or disloyalty. However for Banquo, he has a tendency for greed especially after the prediction made by the witches, he delighted in the thought of being the father of kings. We know that he did not take action to make this prophecy happen but it can be said that he is a little bit jealous of Macbeth's fortune when he becomes Thane of Cawdor and King of Scotland. But surely he is suspicious after Macbeth has been crowned king. (act 3)

Both start their plays as well-respected decorated soldiers known for their bravery and honour. Both are plotted against/manipulated - Macbeth by the three witches, Othello by Iago. Both have a tragic flaw which ultimately leads to their downfall - Macbeth and his ambition, Othello and his jealousy. Both end up committing murder. Both end up dead at the end of the play.

Macbeth [c. 1014-August 15, 1057] and Macduff were the same in courage and in persistence. They both showed bravery on the battlefield. They both were practical about figuring out what needed to be done to get what they wanted. But at the same time, it was in that practicality that they differed. Macbeth considered fair means and foul. As brave as he was, he picked unfair fights in which his opponent could do nothing but lose. For example, he killed Duncan I [d. August 14, 1040] when the King was tired, sleepy, and defenseless at the end of a long working day. Similarly, the unarmed, unwarned Banquo was outnumbered three to one. In contrast, Macduff challenged Macbeth to a fair fight. The same fairness hadn't been extended to Macduff's wife and son. Macbeth had arranged for a surprise raid that turned Macduff's entire family and household into the defenseless, bloodied victims of the Fife Castle massacre. Additionally, Macduff knew how to control his ambitions. He made as his ambition revenge upon Macbeth for the Fife Castle massacre. He refused to be tempted by the Scottish crown and throne. He planned to kill a king and move on. He had no interest in killing to become king himself. In contrast, Macbeth couldn't control his ambitions. Ambitions in check led to Macduff's survival despite deep personal sorrow. Raging, uncontrolled ambitions led to Macbeth's downfall.

After hearing the prophecies of the witches, Banqou dismesses the idea and doen not believe them, whereas Macbeth keeps on thinking about them and tries to know more about his future; he is hesitant whether to believe them or not! They are both friends, and are loyal to the king and each other. Later on in the play, Macbeth betrays his loyalty and kills them both..

One similarity that stands out is that they are both very ambitous and imaginative. If they weren't they wouldn't have ended up where they were after killing king Duncan and all.

Professional hitmen.
