In Greek Mythology, Arachne was killed by Athena after losing a spinning contest to her. After Arachne lost, she hung herself in the forest. Athena took pity on her, and turned her into a spider. Since her name was Arachne, spiders are also known as Arachnids.
The term arachnid is from the Greek word άράχνη or arachne, meaning spider, and also referring to the mythological figure Arachne.
Arachnids are related to mythology because a maid called Arachne was so proud of her abilities to weave that she challenged the goddess, Athena to a weaving competition. Arachne boasted that she would easily win. When Arachne lost to Athena, she hung herself in shame. Athena saw her do this so she turned the hanging rope into a web and turned Arachne into a arachnid so she can forever weave with her descendants.
They are the same thing, but arachnids are a larger group.
Spiders and scorpions are both types of "arachnids." Spiders are of the class Araneae. The class name Arachnida and order Araneae come from the Greek word for spider (aráchnē), based on a story from ancient Greek times. Arachne was a woman who challenged the goddess Athena to a weaving competition, but lost and was cursed to live as a spider. (In another version of the story, Arachne won, and it was Athena's jealousy that provoked the curse.)
well i don't have paragraph, but what the whole thing is about is Arachne compared her self to Athena and Athena got super angry (you don't compare your self to the god's) so Athena tried to warn Arachne by coming to earth as an old woman and told her not to compare her self to Athena. but Arachne refused and the old woman turned into Athena and they had a competition on who could make the most beautiful quilt and when Athena was done she went to look at Arachne's quilt and it shows horrible things about the god's so Athena turned Arachne into a spider. so that's why thing's are now called arachnophobia arachnids and so on.
Almost all arachnids have eight legs, they dont have antenna's and all are carnivorous.
Arachne's Roman name is still Arachne.
no they are not spiders are arachnids
they all have 8 legggss
Firstly, all arachnids cannot fly. they all have 8 legs and 2 body parts Insects have 3 body parts, 8 legs, and some have wings (Spiders are often mistaken for insects). Arachnids get their name from an ancient Greek legend. It was said that Athena found a woman called Arachne boasting that her weaving was better than anyone, even the goddesses weaving. Greek gods and goddesses did not take well to upstart mortals, so Arachne was turned into a spider. She could weave only her webs, and all spiders now carry her name. Hope this helps :D
Arachne was a weaver of particular skill.
