Oceans are useful to people because even though only little creatures(such as plankton) live there, bigger creatures eat those little creatures, and so on and so forth. So really if there were no oceans, there would be no plankton, and no bigger animals to eat them, and we wouldn't have fish to eat, and land animals wouldn't be able to eat fish either, so we all wouldn't even be alive if there weren't oceans. Sorry it's so long, it is very difficult to explain over the internet.
