That depents on the horse breed, a fallabella never grow as big as a Shire. A horse's final size will depend on its weight. Horses are measured in hands, with one hand being equal to approximately ten centimetres. Horses are measured from the ground to the withers, which is where the neck joins the shoulders. Very small breeds of horse are popular as pets. They are so small that they are unsuitable for riding, but some have been trained to take on the duties of guide dogs. The smallest known breed, the Falabella, can stand less than 7hh (hh means hands high). The slightly larger Shetland pony is also too small to be ridden, except by toddlers. The Shetland is usually between 9 and 11hh. A child's pony that would be seen at gymkhanas and Pony Club events is usually around 12-13hh. Any horse that stands below 14.2hh is considered a pony. A horse that can carry an adult comfortably without being too tall for them is usually around 15hh. Serious competition horses are usually taller than pleasure riding horses (16-17hh) because the increased size gives their legs better reach. This means they can run faster and jump higher. Draft horses, bred to pull heavy weights, are larger still. 'Light' draft horses, often used on farms because they can also work under saddle, are usually around 17hh. Larger draft horses can stand up to 19hh. The largest horse ever recorded was 21hh.

Horses can actually come in many shapes and sizes, varying from small, dog sized miniatures, to enormous drafts. The largest breed of horse is the shire, that originated in Europe. Horses in general are measured in the scale of 'hands' - one hand measuring about four inches, and are measured up to their withers (the high point of their shoulders). One of the current largest horses recorded is a clydesdale stallion named Digger, measureing 19.5 hands - or 6'6". However, the world is full of enormous horses, and also filled with their tiny counterparts! :)

It depends on what breed the horse is.

The height of riding horses range from 14 hands (56 inches, 142 cm) to 17 hands (68 inches, 173 cm).

Draft horses can be 18 hands high (72 inches or 183 cm).

The largest recorded horse was 21.2 1/2 hh.

It really depends on the breed.

A.

Really , it does depend on the breed . In the US, we have mostly Quarter Horses for work and pleasure. Full grown they are usually 15 to 17 hands high .Thouroughbreds are generally a bit taller at the shoulder, but a little lighter. If you check around, you will see everything from Falabellas, mini-horses about the size of a Mastiff , to Draft horses , like Clydesdales, Percherons , and Shire horses, who make s-10's look like toy trucks.
