Scientists can not even begin to estimate the size of the universe just before the Big Bang. The Big Bang destroyed all information about what existed before it occurred. Scientists have attempted to discover the size of the universe at the time of the Big Bang. The closest they can get by extrapolation is ten with an exponent of minus 32 of a second afterward. The guesses range from the size of a man's hand to a single point. No one understands what caused it. The secret may lie in two sets of equations, one involves the Theory of Relativity and the other involves quantum physics. So far no one has resolved the conflict between the two. If you can, maybe you will figure it out.

This is an area of active research. The size of the visible universe can be estimated, but it is not known how big the universe really is, or even its general shape (for example, whether it returns back to itself, like the surface of a sphere, or what).

There's not enough information to answer uniquely; it could be a number of galaxies, a number of stars, a number of protons, etc. If you want to know what the number of a specific object is, you need to ask about that object (e.g. "How many stars are in the universe"?) but I'm pretty sure all three of those have already been asked and answered here.

I take it that you are referring to the number of stars, and it is fascinating to note that a recent study by two eminent universities (one British, one American) came up with the "probable" figure of 3 septillion - that's 3 followed by 24 zeros, and if you can envisage that number of anything you are pretty smart!

String theory aside, scientists believed that all space and time came into being after the big bang. There was no space, so the universe was dimensionless.
