It depends on the spider. Most Spiders 'take over' an existing hole - such as a disused rat burrow - rather than dig one for themselves. They'll usually line the hole with silk to form a 'plug' at a comfortable depth. This creates a living space just big enough for the spider to sit comfortably, waiting for prey to come close enough to be caught.

It all depends on the size of the warren of rabbits. Male rabbits do not dig as such but when does are pregnant, they will assist the females to dig a small burrow for her to give birth in. However, if a group of buck rabbits do not have shelter, they will dig scrapes (small holes) in which they shelter from the rain. A few generations of pregnant does will create a massive burrow, in which there is many tunnels and sleeping sections.
