However, ideally, a dog needs about the same amount of space as a child would need inside a house--and it's ideal to have at least a medium-sized yard or close access to green areas for the dog to run and play in.
But, again, dogs need time more than they need space.

∙ 12y agoA dog house needs to be large enough for the dog to fit comfortably but small enough to keep the dog warmer in the winter months. A good rule of thumb is make it approximately 6-8 inches longer than the dog's length with a width of about the length of the dog's body. There isn't a real set size other than that.
