He can apply for emancipation at the local courthouse. A judge can grant him emancipation if he is capable of taking care of himself and can prove it. * If the relaltive has received a custodial order from the cour emancipation is not an option even if the state of residence allows such action. Once a court order has been granted it requires that the order is rescinded or amended by the issuing judge or a higher court before any changes can be made in the minor's living arrangements. Unless the court has permanently terminated parental rights, the parents have the legal right to object to any action taken regarding the minor regardless of their circumstances.

Can parents lose custody if both are on prescription narcotics and do not keep the children with them?

Yes, if the parents do not "keep" their child with them that implies they leave the child with someone else. That someone else could petition the court for a legal guardianship and gain legal custody of the child. That would be in the best interest of the child and the person with whom the child lives should have legal custody.Yes, if the parents do not "keep" their child with them that implies they leave the child with someone else. Can you move out at 17 if you live with your parents but you have a notarized letter stating you are living with your aunt?

The presence of a notarized statement is not relevant, as the state law determines the age of majority and the court determines who has custody of a minor if the parents have had their rights terminated or some other issue prevents the minor from living with them. That does not appear to apply in this case, the parents have legal custody of you unless a court has ruled otherwise. The legal age in most US states is 18 and there are no states where a 17-year-old can legally and arbitrarily leave parental custody if the parents are opposed.

Can a 14-year-old move out of her parents' house and live with her sister if she can support herself in the state of Iowa?

No, not unless her parents give the adult sister a written and notarized statement granting temporary custody (3 months or less). Any other arrangement for the minor to leave the custody of her parents would have to be done through prescribed legal procedures.

Can a mother with joined custody move out of the state of Michigan if the father lives in Michigan?

If there's a court order, it'd need to be followed. Most court ordered custody will explain about parents moving out of state. If there's no custody order, I'd consider putting one in place before moving. The father could file a custody case in MI, if you leave and he doesn't like it.
