Why do the cats have 9 lives?

They don't. Like all other living things, cats only have a single life to live. Some people think they have nine lives because of their ability to always land on their feet and survive drastic falls.

They don't actually have nine lives generally. It's the fact that they can mostly survive the same dangerous things at least nine times. e.g If a cat were to be stepped on by accident they would survive more than five times.

Scientifically, they only have one life as do us humans because it is impossible to re-live eight times. It's the same with any animal. If someone said a whale had 18 lives, they probably mean they can survive most dangerous things. Or if the internet said a mouse had 3 lives etc.

So for all you idiots out there. The 'cat has nine lives' phrase is a bunch of rubbish. Kayyyy?

Obviously cats don't actually have nine lives, its just an expression that dramatizes how cats often come very close to being killed (ie leaning out of windows, climbing very tall trees, running across roads)

Because sometimes it seems like they have more lives, and nine is a magic number. Cats have great reflexes and in some cases are just, well, luckier than humans.
