Seedless grapes are a product of stenospermocarpy. Long word, huh?

It means the flower gets pollinated and the embryo (the seed) starts forming but after a little while, due to a genetic defect, it "commits suicide" and we're left with the grape and only the shadow of a seed inside it. Such grapes are propagated asexually by rooting cuttings or with tissue cultures.

Seedless grape are cuttings from other vines that have over time be genetically altered by selection to produce a full seed, basically they are clones. Most of the worlds grapes, apples, cherries and such no longer produce seeds and rely on man for reproduction. They are currently working on the same concept with all citrus as well.Note: All these still have seeds inside, they just never reach the part of hardening and remain soft. This is not some new science, man has been selectively reproducing plants for 100s of years.
