Asking someone if they are gay can be very awkward for both parties.

Be sensitive to the person's feelings to whom you are asking the question.

If this is someone you are close friends with, make sure to tell them you'll be friends with them no matter what their answer may be, and that their answer will remain confidential.

Often people who are asked very personal questions like "Are you gay?" will become defensive, even to the point where they are not going to give you an honest answer. Respect their answer, no matter what it is. If the person isn't ready to have the conversation, then at least they know that you are interested in their life.

If you approach the question and the person with respect and openness, hopefully they will respond in turn.

just because someone asks you if you are gay does NOT mean that they are gay. but they could be. but just because they ask you, if your gay... in that case not necessarily.

It is important to ask someone who is also gay. Be careful not to ask out someone who is straight or someone who hasn't come to terms with their sexuality yet. this might cause troubles. Once you have come across someone who is also gay and perhaps interested in you, ask them like you would ask anyone else. Perhaps ask them on a date or ask them to hang out. Get to know them and go from there.

you can have a gay experiment by having sex with someone the same sex as you and if you like them ask if they are gay.
