it's hard to. so basically, they dont. if they are not lucky enough to have been evacuated via the airports which would be rapidly closing down, they are not likely to survive. for the ones who do survive, the 10% of the people involved, life would be tough and they would eventually end up starving to death, inhaling the volcanich ash, etc. hope this is okay for you :]
Every year there are about 100,000 earthquakes that are strong enough to be felt by people, but only a few of these are strong enough to hurt people and cause damage.
