Predators eat prey; they usually hunt down and kill prey that are weak, old, young, sickly or injured. This keeps the prey population down and healthy and at the same time checks their population in such a way that it prevents overpopulation. When prey species are overpopulated, they tend to eat more plants than what plant matter can support.
