The Holy Spirit is the idea of right and wrong and one's ability to chose one from the other. The Holy Spirit is supposed to be a comfort for those who believe in it. Having to ask what the baptism of the Holy Spirit helps us with in our lives assumes that the person asking doesn't have this faith.

When we are baptized we are being cleaned. So we have no sins. I was baptized when i was a baby, and in my church it also means we become a member of this church and officially become part of the lords kingdom.

I am Lutheran but i think its the same for all Christianity, or similar.

The Holy Ghost was sent to the believer after Jesus' ascension to be a "comforter". We also find strength, power, direction ,discernment, courage, and peace through the Holy Ghost. The Bible tells us that we must worship the Lord in Spirit and in Truth. If you don't have the Holy Ghost (Spirit), how can you worship him in the spirit. The Bible also says that we have a heavenly prayer language given to us by the Holy Ghost to pray to the Father that Satan does not understand because He cannot be of the Spirit of God. This is also known as praying in tongues .(not to be confused with speaking in tongues. )There is very little comfort or Peace found within denominationalism. A particular denomination may teach you the truths about the Bible ,but unfortunatly it is usually tied to their particular beliefs and traditions. Through the guidance of the Holy Ghost, one can read and interpret the scriptures for himself and find out the unpolluted truth of the Bible on his own.( Which is what the Bible teaches us to do anyway.) I don't believe that you have to have the evidence of speaking in tongues as proof of your Holy Ghost Baptism. When you seek it,it will come ( in his time),when it comes to you ,you'll know. Most people are intimidated to read the Bible on their own because of lack of understanding. Read it. You will understand what the Lord wants you to understand. The closer your walk, the more he will reveal to you. You cannot make it to heaven on the skirt tails of your mothers prayers, the membership of a denomination, or the shaking of a preachers hand. When you read the Bible, remember it was not written to be read and understood with a carnal( worldly)mind, but with the heart of a believer.

A:It is very unclear how, if at all, receiving the gifts of the Holy Spirit can help you. There is no evidence that those who feel they have received the Holy Spirit are more honest or righteous than other Christians or even non-Christians. True, they may feel that the Holy Spirit has strengthened their faith, but an alternative view is that their faith was already strong, because they even believed they had received the Holy Spirit.

Acts of the Apostles chapter 2 has the Holy Spirit come down to the disciples as tongues of flame, after which the disciples were able to speak in languages they had not previously known (Acts 2:8). Yet a later tradition from Papias, the second-century Church Father, says that Mark was the interpreter for St Peter, suggesting there was no strong belief that Peter could speak other languages at all. If in this instance the Holy Spirit could only come down on the disciples with the sound of rushing wind and as tongues of fire, then presumably no one since has ever received the Holy Spirit unless accompanied by the very same theatrics.

Another Answer:

The theme that is threaded throughout the Scripture is God the Father's plan to bring mankind into His family - as sons and daughters. In order for we physical humans to become spiritual children of the God Family, we need to become spiritual. Jesus Christ, as our perfect example, shows us how this can be done. He was born physical - begotten by His Father via His Holy Spirit. He grew in the gifts of the Holy Spirit, obeying God to the end when He was called to rise in the Spirit as the Son of God. Even in His daily trials and sufferings, God's Holy Spirit comforted Him and gave Him strenght to continue onwards.

When God allowed His Spirit to be freely attained on Pentecost as Acts 2:38-39 states (first time since the Garden fall), note that it was not given to all. All examples of those receiving God's Holy Spirit are those who fully repented, were baptized, promising to follow to the end our Perfect example Jesus Christ.

Note how these begotten Apostles and disciples spread God's message to the world around them, even under severe persecution and death. Scripture tells us the Holy Spirit of God empowered these and some today to do the same.

The Bible states that many are called but only a few walk through the narrow gate, repenting, baptizing, and walking in Christ after being 'begotten' like Jesus. They are empowered by the Spirit in many ways - some receiving one gift of 'tongues' while others receive others listed in Scripture - some receiving more than one gift. These gifts strengthen the new Christian follower to desire to do the good works of God, ever-growing in spiritual understanding awaiting our eventual Resurrection to Everlasting Life as promised. The Apostle Paul calls the begotten Christian 'a new creature.'
