How can you bypass a transponder key on a 1996 Audi A4?

If you have one transponder key take it to a hardware store or Lowes / Homedepot and tell them "you want a key just to get in the door". Take the transponder key and duck tape or some other means of your choice right under the key ignition switch. The plain key will work now as the module inside the column is reading the signal from your taped key. I did this to my daughters car as it only came with one key and it works great. Saves you about $200.00. Good luck!
