There are products for leak detection. Basically they are dye solutions that are dripped into a completely still pool, near potential sites of leaks. The dye solution will lead the way to the leak -- hopefully. Many pool dealers carry the product. There are companies that specialize in leak detection, using sound detection equipment or techniques. Depending upon the type and location of the leak, it may be possible to add a leak sealer to the appropriate location. A leak sealer product, such as FIX A LEAK can create a permanent seal in walls, floors or the filtration system. ∙ 15y agoTypically air leaks are found at the pool pump. usually due to the pump lid o-ring needing replaced or perhaps just cleaned and lubricated. The next common scenerio is the male adapter that screws to the intake side (front) of the pump, several causes can be a improperly installed fitting, cracked fitting or melted fitting from the pump running dry.
Here is a simple test you can do to see where at the pump the air is entering:
While the pump is on at full prime (full as it will get with air intrusion) keep you eye on the pump as you turn the power off and on to the pump, if the switch to turn the pump off and on is not close to the pump have someone help you with this.
As you are turning the pump off and on while looking at it you will see water squirting out, either from the pump lid o-ring, the Plumbing in front of the pump, the gasket between the motor and pump or even the valve if any, in front of the pump.
Where ever you see the water squirt, there is your air leak!
Often air leaks are the result of water moving along a pipe that has developed a crack somewhere around one of the glued joints. Cover all the exposed joints with a cling wrap plastic one at a time. if after covering one of them the bubbles stop you know where to fix it easy if the joints are above ground.
