this is what i did:

I went to GameStop after a game laser burned by the 360. I bought the game at a different store (target). Buy the same USED copy of the game (very important). AND buy the disc insurance (also important). Keep the receipt.

swap your broken copy, for the new copy, and return the broken copy to the gamestop for a full refund.2 days later (no later then 7), with reipt. At worst, you wont get 3 dollars back, but you will get all the money back, usually no questions asked.

Toothpaste is apparently a good disc cleaner in general.

Smooth some over the surface of the disc (Shiny side) and leave to dry for a few moments

Then remove with a non-abrasive cloth.

Or just borrow the game from a friend or rent one and install to your hard drive, then insert your old game and it should work unless your game is really scratched up. If it has a ring scratch around it, it will work too.

Option One:

1. Get some plain toothpaste. Not toothpaste that has crystals or whitening chemicals or anything else in it.
2. Grab a soft cloth such as chamois or a soft paper towel.
   
3. Squeeze some toothpaste onto the surface of the cloth.
4. Use the cloth to spread the toothpaste onto the disc in an even layer. Work left to right rather than using circular motions.
5. Leave it for 10 minutes.
6. Run the disc under water to wash off the toothpaste.
7. Dry and buff with a clean cloth.

Option Two

1. Rinse the surface of the disc with water. Then dry with a soft cloth.
2. Apply wax-based chapstick evenly to the disc in left to right motions. Make sure the chapstick does not have glitter or colouring in it.
3. Now use a clean cloth to buffer the disc in straight lines, do not use circular motions.
4. Buff it again with a clean side of the cloth in the same manner as step 3.

Option Three

1. Apply both toothpaste and chapstick. Left-to-right, not circular motions.
   
2. Leave on for 10 minutes.
3. Rinse with water then wipe clean with a damp cloth.
4. Buff the disc with a dry cloth.

If none of these work, then you may have to purchase a new disc.If you are finding that your XBox console is scratching a lot of discs, get it looked at by a professional. XBox consoles are made very cheaply using cost-cutting techniques and cheap foreign labour. As a result, parts often come loose.
