I had the exact same problem If your headphones jack doesn't work but your speakers do, Here's how you fix it First, check windows updates and install any missing drivers. Then restart it ONLY when windows update tells you to. Dont attempt to turn your computer off during startup just let it finish updating. then when your computer has finished logging in it should work.
If it doesnt, go to control panel then sound and select headphone and click install.
If it says headphones not plugged in the is another alternative but only do it if you're completely out of warranty and if you know what you're doing you can open your laptop (i suggest you find a manual online) get a soldering iron and open the headphones jack from the inside and shift the solder wires back into place if the wires are cut, or you do not know how to do it, i suggest you find a technician
Hope this helped (:

I'm going to guess that you've had your iPod freeze on you. First off, check your battery to make sure it has power. Then make sure that it's unlocked. If your iPod is truly frozen, you have two choices: you can reset it by pressing the play button (like you're going to turn it off) and then hit the center button, or hit the center button and the menu buttons simultaneously. This will reset the iPod, it should not delete any of the music. It can, however, delete or reset your onthego playlists and any other settings that you have changed from the factory settings. This is a very good answer, but there is one way to improve it and that is to take your ipod and hold it in your right hand ( or dominate hand one and throw it up against a wall..

The headphone jack is actually wired with resistors so the headphones don't get the full amplifiers output. The only way you can fry the speaker system, is to send voltage back through the headphone jack and/or crank the volume all the way up with a short or no speaker connection. Check speaker fuses!
