How can you get your air conditioning compressor to start on a 2000 beetle so you can add r134a?

Start adding, once you get enough pressure to be over the safety low pressure switch it will come on so you can fill it completely. The switch is put in there to prevent the compressor from coming on when no refrigerant is presesnt and ruining the unit. You might want to find out why you are so low on freon before filling it up again.

Jump the compressor relay next to the fuse panel under the hood. Pull the relay out and use a piece of wire to jump the contacts. Compressor will engage, with the engine running fill with your 134a.
