To be a Mason, ask a Mason. Masons are not allowed to ask you to join, you must ask them.
Drop by the lodge you are interested in joining, they will be happy (thrilled more likely) to talk to you about it.
It is a process with several steps. You must petition for membership, filling in a form with a number of questions about yourself. You must have recommenders in the Lodge you are petitioning, as well as personal references. Then you must wait while an investigation is conducted. Then the Lodge must vote by secret ballot to accept you. Most lodges require a unanimous ballot in favor of your acceptance. Then you must be initiated. Once initiated, you are a Freemason.
A Masonic lodge is considered the basic organisational unit of the Freemasonry movement. To become a member, one must apply to a lodge. Completion of a master's degree is not required unless one wishes to become a Master Mason.
All you have to do to be a mason is just ask one, or go to a lodge in your area and talk to the masons.
You must be invited to join the Masonic Lodge by a Mason.
