look under the dash and find the broken end peel the case back until you can grab the broken piece with vicegrips then pull someone pushing down on the front of the hood will help release it do this all at the same time
If it is just the plastic handle broken, behind that is the cable that opens the hood. Just grab the cable with a pair of pliers and pull. You can probably just replace the inside handle and not have to run a new cable.
Yes you can crimp the hood release cable back to the handle.
Raise the hood and look at the belt. If it is broken you will readily see this.
I just had mine fixed at the shop because I went to open the hood, and the handle broke, rendering it ineffective. He had to take off the grill, and headlight in order to actuate the cable that opens the hood, and then of course he replaced the broken handle, which he said is a common occurrence. Junk vehicle.
hold out on handle another person tap on frt. of the hood
The hood is openned by a cable that links the handle in the car the hood latch. If the cable is broken or detached then the hood will not open. The cable has two parts, an outer covering and the actual cable that pulls on the hood latch when the inside handle is pulled, you need to check the inside handle to see if the cable is still attached to the handle, also you need to check the hood latch to see if that end is still attached to the hood latch. If either is disconnected the you will need to get appropriate hardware(nuts, bolts etc) to attach it back but if the cable is broken it has to be replaced complete. This you might or might not be able to do depending on you skill and proficiency with tools.
Our 2004 Saturn Vue hood release can be opened (if the cable is not broken) by disconnecting the cable from the back of the release lever, grabbing the ball on the end of the cable with some large pliers ("channel locks") and pulling hard. A metal "wire keeper" bracket clamped to the cable end under the hood to serve as a spacer and the release lever works.
If the cable for opening the hood will not open it on a 1997 Saturn SL, put the car on a hoist. Then use a pole to trip the latch for the hood. Lower the vehicle, then open the hood all the way. Repair the cable before closing the hood again.
Hood release handle is in the glove box. Then proceed as normal at the hood lifting slightly and feeling out the release lever and pull it up.
You would have to pop the hood of the car. If the handle is broken to the hood, you must locate the piece of the wire that it was connected to and pull on it with a pair of pliers.
There is a cap under the hood on the valve cover that says ADD OIL HERE
