The check engine light is on because of an emission control problem. In order to shut it off you have to have it hooked up to an OBDII code reader. The code reader will give you a code as to why it is on and can shut it off for you.
you can only clear it with an OBDII (two) diagnostic scaner
You must use a OBD2 code reader to eset the light. Unless you fix the problem that caused it to come on, it will just come on again.
Try disconneting the battery for about 10 mins. or have vehicle scanned to have codes cleared
You go get your engine service done soon.
Transmission, maybe. Check engine light
Have vehicle scanned to determine the problem
Take it to Auto Zone and have the codes checked and cleared, for free.
The check engine light codes have to be read and removed with a scanner on anything after '96.Auto Zone will do it free.GoodluckJoe To reset the "check engine" light, simply disconnect the battery for a moment and it will go out. This worked for me on my 98 Ranger. try checking the co2 sensor. A sure fire method, if you can access the fault codes, is to remove the jumper wire while the codes are displaying. Pull the codes from the computer, match the code to the troubleshooting procedure, follow the procedure to find the source. Repair the source, light will go out if that was the only problem. There are "monitors" or self tests the computer runs the car through a drive cycle, if a problem occurs, it may not run all of the self tests until that problem is taken care. Therefore, another problem may exist. It is emission related. OR hook up a scanner that is capable of clearing codes, and hope that none are still active. Pukenstein@aol.com Unless it is a hard code...OBDII hard codes will not reset simply by fixing the problem..they have to be reset with an OBDII scanner Advance Auto Parts has em too
To the left of the hood latch is a cover for the plug in port where a diagnosis scanner can plug in. Pop out the cover and take it to autozone for a free diagnosis.
you need a scanner
A person can reset the check engine light by using an OBD scanner to clear the codes. This is after the problem is fixed.
The light is reset with a scan tool after the repair. There is not a button.
You can reset it with your OBD reader or you can disconnect the negative battery cable for a couple of minutes to reset the check engine light.
Unhook the battery for about 2 minutes and that will reset the computer.
With the proper scan tool.
auto zone can rest it for free
I don't know about the 2000 year model directly but the 1996 is similar I am sure. To reset the "check engine" light, find the EFI fuse (probably under the hood in the fusebox on the driver's side) and with the engine off, remove it for one minute minimum. Replace the fuse and the "check engine" light should be reset.
Have the problem that caused the check engine light to come on repaired. They will reset the light with an OBD2 scan tool. The light will just come back on if the problem is not repaired.
go to auto zone they will run the machine that tells you why the light is on and they can reset it with that
unplug the battery for 30 seconds.
Go to the Camry dealership they should know.
