replace sensor, catalytic converters smell like rotten eggs when going bad
Yes, It will tell you bank 1 or 2 then sensor 1 or 2 ...Bank 1 is the exhaust pipe coming from the side of the engine with cylinder 1. Sensor 1 is before the catalytic converter, and sensor 2 is after the catalytic converter.
I believe bank 1 sensor 1 is Passenger side before catalytic converter. sensor 2 is after catalytic converter. bank 2 sensor 1 is Driver side before catalytic converter. sensor 2 is after catalytic converter.
have the car checked out, it could be a bad o2 sensor or a plugged converter.
That code means that the oxygen sensor downstream of the catalytic converter on bank 2 is detecting that the converter is not working as efficiently as it should be. It could be a bad oxygen sensor, a bad catalytic converter or and exhaust leak.
Yes...
p0141 is for the sensor behind the catalytic converter.
There's no possible way to pass inspection with a bad catalytic converter, if if you find out you have a bad catalytic converter during your inspection you have a chance after you after you have replaced the catalytic converter and the inspection no no charge/free!!
I believe 0421 is a catalytic converter inefficiency code which is usually caused by a bad o2 sensor or a bad catalytic converter, but I have also seen fouled plugs and exhaust leaks cause this code.
You have a bad 02 sensor after the catalytic converter.
Answercatalytic converter efficiency below threshold.http://www.v8sho.com/SHO/TSB0197HO2SServiceTips.htm see web site for sensors locations, copy and paste website in address.....A code PO420, catalytic converter efficiency below threshold, is more likely an indication of a catalytic converter problem, not the sensor. There are different codes that would indicate a sensor problem. However, it is possible that a sensor problem may be the cause of the catalytic converter code appearing. The sensors (newer cars have two or more) measure the differences between exhaust gas before and after the converter(s). Faulty sensors could indicate a faulty converter when it might be the sensors' bad measurements that are the cause. However, a faulty sensor should also generate a bad sensor code. Sometimes another indicator of a bad catalytic converter might be a vibration in the exhaust system near the converter caused by pressure in the converter or a breakdown of the honeycomb material inside the converter.
Safe, yes, smart, no. Damage can occur to the Catalytic Converter.
easy way is unbolt it and look thru both ends to see if it is clogged. Could have a bad catalytic converter but i would suspect O2 sensor acting up.
