How can you tell if a piece of furniture is made of oak or elm?

The grain pattern is different for an oak vs. an elm. It's hard to describe, but I'm sure you could run a search for wood patterns to find the answer. Another way to become familiar with the different wood grain patterns is ask the sales person which furniture is made of oak and which is made of elm. If you see both long enough, it's easy to spot the difference.
