A lot of people will look to the left or right and not look right at you. Also, they might have facial twitches. They might also not look you in the eyes. May go red in the face. May move from foot to foot or even go into another room to avoid answering. Some will question you about something else trying to throw you off track.

Will not look you in the eyes or the eyes will become blank or dart side to side. May go red in the face. May move from foot to foot or even go into another room to avoid answering. Some will question you about something else trying to throw you off track. After taking hundreds of depositions and preparing clients for trial testimony, the easiest way to tell when someone is lying is how much they elaborate when answering simple questions. For example, when a "yes" or "no" is sufficient, the person will keep going, and going, and going.

The more a person adds to an explanation or answer the more you can be certain they are being less than truthful and/or just plain "full of it". A lawyer always asks for the truth and "don't leave anything out" because lawyers don't like surprises in court. So it would be to their advantage if a client was excessively talking to clear themselves (I know I would.) I would consider someone giving a simple yes or no and sitting there quietly more suspicious than a person that prattles on. Still waters run deep! If I was innocent and didn't want to do prison time I'd tell my lawyer everything and be sure they know where I'm coming from. If you can't be honest with your lawyer then what's the point of retaining them. Often people that are frightened and have never had problems with the law will be nervous and could talk more when a simple yes or no is needed.

If the person plays with their hair, fidgets, or taps their fingers (if sitting on a desk) or they're trying to act tired so they will pretend to not hear you talking. If you want to know how to tell if someone is lying, their are many different techniques one can use. The 4 major techniques that have consistently proven accurate are eye patterns, body language, cadence of speech, and emotional gestures. I find that eye patterns prove most effective. NLP research has confirmed all the eye patterns. When someone looks to the left, generally they are lying because when you look to the left your brain is "creating an auditory thought." When you look to the right, your brian is "remembering an auditory thought. elaborates more on this subject.

There are many tricks to determining whether or not someone is lying to you. Some of the most basic would include looking for a "tell" which is an action someone unconsciously does when they're nervous, like brush their hair behind their ear. Another technique you can use is to watch the person's eyes while they are speaking to you, if their eyes move up and to the right they are likely telling the truth because they are recalling something from memory, while if their eyes move up and to the left they are possibly lying, because their minds are accessing the "creative" portion of their brain.

Answer:

Sometimes people who are intending to lie will ask you to repeat your question because it gives them time to create an answer.

They may avoid eye contact at the time of telling the lie OR they may force sustained direct eye contact in order to give the impression of telling the truth.

They may subconsciously touch their face, because lying causes your body to send a slight tingling sensation to your face (especially the nose) that makes you want to scratch it.

They may try to change the subject.

They might ask, "Don't you trust me?

ANSWER

1. A liar will look you in the eyes too much.

eg Make too much eye contact when telling a lie.

2. A liar will use formal language over informal.

eg Instead of saying "I didn't take your cookies" he'll say "I did not take your cookies."

3.When someone is lying they will limit their expressions to only their mouth."

eg Making a fake smile

How to tell when a smile is fake:-

If it is just in the mouth it is a fake smile &

Cheeks do not raise much, crows-feet do not develop

[eg If it is a smile where he smiles with his mouth but not his eyes.]

[ COMMENT We all know someone like that: I do, but couldn't put his here! ]

4. A liar will subconsciously make gestures that do not match their emotions.

eg "Yeah I would love to help you move" and simultaneously give little shakes with your head.

eg "I disagree with you" and simultaneously give little nods of your head.

5. A liar will subconsciously place an object between them and their accuser.

6. A liar will use your words of a question to make an answer.

eg If asked ' Did you take my cookies?' he'll say "I didn't take your cookies" or "I did not take your cookies."

Otherwise if he had not taken them he'd just say "Nuh" or "No"

7. Liars like to add unnecessary details into their statements

It is over-compensating, you know you are lying so you'll throw in a few extra details to convince people.

eg " I forgot to put deodorant under my left arm when I wasn't stealing your car"

8. Liars are horrible at telling their stories backwards.

You know, people tend to reverse their stories, their alibis.

eg If they are lying where they ended up, they are going to start at the beginning: but you can start at the end, and then slowly move backwards into the story.

They invented it in one order, but then they have to access it in a different way.

COMMENT: How good are you at spotting liars?

They may be smiling, be looking nervous, or even just being suspicious. Sometimes they will stutter their words or they may take awhile to answer a question because they have to make up a lie. But in truth you never really tell if they are lying. Be careful these characteristics are also those of a very shy person so don't accuse some one of lying.

Another sign of lying is the eyes. Although the idea that a liar cannot look someone in the eyes is an old wives tale, liars eyes tend to drift towards the lower left quadrant of view (from their perspective, your lower right). This indicates accessing the creative part of the brain, while high and slightly to the right tends to indicate accessing memories. Also, under stress, people's pupils will dilate to varying degree, depending on the person and amount of stress. Well first your friend wouldn't want to tell you if you if your boyfriend or someone was talking about you anyway they would look off or their voice would change or they would catch an attitude for no reason.

How can you tell when a WOMAN is lying? No one can be completely sure if someone is lying to them. It takes time to figure out down the road if that person has lied about anything. We learn basically from experience, so, if you've had experience with men cheating then go with your gut feeling. However, if you have been with someone who cheated and you are worried it will happen again it's possible you are self-destroying yourself. We all have to take a chance on certain people in our lives. If we all look back on our lives we have all lied (some white lies) but nevertheless lies. People do it for different reasons: keeping secrets, not wanting to hurt the person or denial. At this point in your relationship there is really only one way you can perhaps find out and that is by taking a friend, get in a vehicle that he won't recognize and follow him one night when you think he is cheating on you. Before you accuse anyone of lying or cheating on you it's best to have proof. I caught my first husband cheating because I followed him with my sister-in-law and lo and behold both of our husbands were cheating on us! It may be difficult if the person is an habitual liar, but there are giveaways you can watch for. They will not look directly at you. Their eyes will move rapidly from side to side, they will blush, their answer will be contrary to the last one. They may even try to be convincing that they are telling the truth, so overplay their answer. I suppose that the difficulty is in how well you know the person. == They can't look you in the eye, they fidget with their hands, and sometimes their breath quickens.
There are a few things to do when trying to figure out if someone is lying, i learnt by researching human lie detector. there are a few main things to watch out for, micro expressions, pupils diolating, where the eyes look when they answer the question and there body movement.

if you were to research these things, you would find out how to tell if someone is lieing....although i warn you, telling if someone is lying is not always a good thing, you can see stuff that you wouldn't normally and it can hurt sometimes.
sometimes they will shake their head side to side and not up and down. they will also have uncontrollable movements and look down and at their feet, but never in your eyes. ( unless their pro liar's, then you have a problem).

hope that helps

look deeply in his/her eyes. if its suspicious, then he/she might be lying. look at his/her body language, if he/she is doing something/moving it he/she might be lying. If they are rubbing their nose or face they are definitely lying.

These techniques work for some people, some times. Pathological liars and very experienced liars are very, very good at making you believe them.

People with certain conditions will always appear to be lying with these techniques. People with Asperger's Syndrome or Autism Spectrum Disorder are almost completely unable to look into your eyes while talking. People (like this writer) who have difficulty focusing their eyes up close cannot sustain a long look into someone's eyes.

If you believe that you cannot trust someone, you should not be with them. A healthy relationship is not built on fear, distrust, jealousy.

Simply put, their actions sync up with their words. Like they say, talk is cheap. I've personally found that if someone is truly sincere, they will back everything up with action and their RE-actions. 'Nuff said. J-Bats NYC

They're telling the truth if they look to the right. When they look right, it means they're remembering something like a memory. If they look to the left, they're pretending.

If they get sweaty, fidget, don't look comfortable, or do something with their hair like brush it back or something, they're usually lying.

If they get over defensive about something, they're most likely lying.
