How can you tell if your female white mouse is pregnant?

Mice pregnancy generally does not show until the mouse is fifteen days pregnant. The mouse gestation period is twentyone days long. At day fifteen your mouse will be quite large and her stomach will be very visible. Before the fifteen day mark it is very hard to tell if the mouse is pregnant. I would suggest weighing it every day to see if is getting any heavier. To do this you will need a scale that weighs things in grams or ounces. If you do not want to weigh your mouse I would wait a few days and see what it looks like. If your mouse has not given birth in three weeks, than it is not pregnant.

It can be hard to tell. Directly after conception, the female mouse will have a mucus "plug" in her vagina, but it falls out within twelve hours or so. After that, you just have to wait until the mother mouse starts to show, and a few of them never really do, if they have a small litter. However, when female mice DO show, it's usually spectacular--they start to build this huge bulge around the middle, and by the time it's time to give birth, they look like they've swallowed a Golf ball. It's pretty hard to miss then.

You can also sometimes tell a female mouse is pregnant by gently pressing her tummy from both sides and feeling the babies inside, but it's too easy to hurt the mama or the babies when you're doing that. Most breeders recommend just waiting.

There are several signs that will indicate that a rat is pregnant. There will be changes in the rat's hormones which will effect its behaviour and its mood as well as the most obvious symptom which will be weight gain. As her due date approaches, she will begin to demonstrate nesting behaviours and her nipples will appear larger as the hair recedes from them. This is her body preparing for lactation.
