If you look at the underside of your crab, on it's last pair of walking legs under it's abdomen, a female will have a dot on each side, these dots are called nonporous. They are what determines whether or not you have a female or a male crab.
its hard to tell if your hermit crab is a male or female when there in their shell the girls are most likely to be smaller in size than the male but never ever pull your hermit crab out of its shell to see if its a male or a female they probably would like to be pulled in half then give up its home
Scientists have been studying that question for years and still say that so far there is no way to tell with gender the hermit crab is. Also they don't know how to breed a hermit crab in captivity because the crab eggs go floating through the pcean and we don't know what mixed in with the crab's egg.
Your hermit crab has to have a gender you can tell by these hole looking things on their side ( forget the name) u cant see them because they are under their shell.NEVER ATTEMPT 2 PULL THEM OUT OF THEIR SHELL THEY WILL RIP IN HALF! hermit crabs will hold teirselves in till they rip:(
When you pick up a hermit crab, it should come out of its shell enough for you to see. look at the back of it, if you see two black dots, which are called the gonopores, it's female. If you don't see any dots, it's male.
If you look at the bottom inner stomach of a female hermit, you will see two tiny dots where eggs come out!
There are many theories, but scientists are still trying to discover that out.
Since not much attention has been focused on the hermit crab
if you gently flip over the crab, On the last set of legs, look at it. Does it have 2 dots? if it does, its a girl. If it doesnt have 2 dots, its a male.
No, but here's a page with pictures of male and female crabs and how to sex them. http://www.thecrabbagepatch.com/crabanatomy.html
If you tip your hermit crab almost upside down, they will come out of their shell a little bit. If the hermit crab is a female, then they will have two little dots on each side of their insides, used for laying the eggs of the hermit crabs. If it is a male you will not find these dots.
I read somewhere that most (If not all) male hermit crabs are somewhat purple on their legs and claws. Females will change color slightly during mating season, but males are always like that.

You can tell by slightly flipping it over (Gently), and when you can see all of the body (but be careful to not drop it), look at the body. Do you see 2 dots? if you do, its a female. If you dont see 2 dots, its a male.
on a male horseshoe crab, the two front appendages look like boxing gloves. They use these to hold on to the female when they mate. on a female the two front appendages just look like regular claws
No.
i think you should separate them in separate cages because if not you should return them for a male and female because they do get along you can tell the sex by look under your crabs the female has two dots about one cetimeter apart the male two dot close together
There are entire sites about hermit crabs, my favorite is in the following paragraphs: Hello! Welcome to HERMIT-CRABS.COM. My name is Christa Wilkin, and I've owned land hermit crabs for over 35 years. First things first -- congratulations on having made the decision to own pet land hermit crabs! Hermit crabs need a bit more care than generally assumed, but you'll find the results to be very rewarding! Here you'll learn all about keeping pet land hermit crabs healthy. You'll read about what kinds of food they like and don't like, what they like to do at night while you're asleep, and (very importantly) what do when your pet crab molts (sheds his skin). You'll also learn how to tell the difference between a male and female crab, and even how to tell the different species apart! It gets even better -- you'll read the very latest information in crab care, and check out all the links I use to purchase my hermit crabs the very best internet shopping has to offer them.

Well I have heard two answers,If it has hairsIf it has more legs on its last segment, then it's a girl (you have to get it out of the shell pretty far)Actually that is wrong. Girl hermit crabs have gonopores. If you turn the hermit crab upside down (PLEASE BE CAREFUL) and it goes out kind of far (DON"T PULL IT) and if it has to little dots on each side, it is a girl.
hermit crabs need a beach to lay their eggs on so they wont have babies in their cage.
