Many different things show that a chemical reaction is happening.

the main one is CHANGE IS OCCURING. change of colour, change of amounts, etc. Also, heat is being consumed/given off. light is given off. Gasses are prodiced. etc etc. some chemical reactions are easily seen i.e. mushroom cloud in the sky, water boils when added to h2so4. other chemical reactions are only realized when a different product emerges from the combining of different elements

The ways you can tell that a chemical reaction has taken place include a change in temperature, a change in color, a change in odor, the formation of a solid (precipitate), and the formation of a gas.

Some chemical reactions are indiscernable; others are unmistakable. Some of the criteria are:

- change in color

- change/presence of smell

- change in temperature (up or down)

- presence of bubbles

- formation of a precipitate (solid)

- change of the viscosity

- change of general appearance

- possible explosion

- possible chemiluminiscence

A chemical reaction may feature any, all, or none of these observations. Chemically speaking, a chemical reaction occurs when a new substance is formed that wasn't there before.

When reactants disappear or alter their properties, and new product are formed, with new, different properties.

Some indicators, showing that a chemical reaction is taking place in solution, are color change, formation of a solid from two solutions, formation of a gas (observed as bubbling).
