You can only do this if it was answered by someone with an username. If it was answered by someone who does, here's some directions: 1. You're at the answer. Click on the link to contribute at the top right corner. Choose the option that asks if you want to view the discussion and history. 2. You can look at the history there. 3. When you see who answered the question, click on their name. 4. That should take you to their bio page. 5. If they have a bio, you can read it. There will be a link for their message board. 6. Click on that link. 7. Then you can thank them for their answer.
First, you must find your question. Second, look towards the bottom of the answer, where it should say "First Answer by [user]". If the user is a number like 222.553.464.62 (not a real ip), then the user is not a registered user, and just quickly contributed, and cannot be contacted. If there is an actual name, then you should be able to click on it to go to the user's bio page. At the top left hand corner, you should click "message this user". Then, type a message, and then click "post this message".
A great way to thank a contributor for writing a good answer to your question, is by clicking on their username, going to their message board, and writing a thank-you note. If they are a Supervisor, you can send them an email in the format username @ wikianswers (dot) com , with a '.' and without spaces. You can also thank the contributor by giving them a trust point. However, they will not know that it was you who gave it to them, so this can be done in addition to writing a message.
If both you and the person who answered your question are registered users, you can use the message board. Go the person's profile page and click on the envelope icon by their name in the header. That will take you to your own message board, but with the other person's ID already filled in. Complete your message and hit "Send".
If either of you is not registered, you can use the discussion comment section and hope the person who answered sees your comment.
The site's Supervisors review most comments and we see a lot of "Thank you"-type comments. We have also seen "that doesn't help at all." Foul, nasty and nonsensical comments get deleted.
You should send them a thank-you note.
You can thank people at wikianswers by either recommending them because they have answered your question or any other questions. Or you can also leave a message on that person's message board and thank him/her personally.
