Probably a needle in a haystack. You can go to your states DMV and they could trace where it has been in the state. However it might have been moved out of state or even the country, so this could be a long drawn out process, and could be expensive. I can't image DMV doing anything for free.
yes, you will need the plate number and 15.00 dollars for a lost title fee.
I think of two ways. Call the DMV and have them do a search using the VIN number or call the court for a copy of the papers filed for bankruptcy. There should be a copy of the title of the car in the paperwork.

Take a copy of your deed. Go the the county courthouse. Go to the tax assessor's office. Add her name.
It may depend on whether the title says Mary and Sam OR Mary or Sam. If it says Mary or Sam then either party may sell it.
You can apply for it at the DMV.
A co-owned vehicle can be taken into possession by either owner at anytime they wish...If the co-owner has a key to the vehicle then they can legally get in and drive the vehicle...If the co-owner does not have a key then they must have a copy of the certificate of title, the registration or other proof of ownership and then the vehicle can be towed. Also if the vehicle was manufactured in the last 12 years and the co-owner does not have a key they can take the proof of ownership to a local dealership and request a copy of that vehicles original key, then go and take possession of the vehicle.
Can I order a copy of my car title over the phone and pay with a credit card?
The Dewey Decimal number and the title and the authors name.
Yes. Call up and ask for another copy to be sent to you. Some banks will do this at no charge. Keep in mind that unless it is a legal, notarized copy of the title, it is not good for much.
