It isn't cold at all. Today, for example, it is 22 degrees Celsius in Los Angeles, USA, but it's 36 degrees Celsius in Ottawa, Canada. Canada is warmer than most people think.

However, it really depends on where in Canada you are thinking of. Farther north, it is very cold, but down in southern Canada, it can be quite warm.

Since Canada is a large country temperature is different in different parts of Canada. In the north where the territories are, temperature can go down to -60 which is very cold. In the south part, it gets around -11.

Winter in 2009 - 2010That winter, it was a warm winter! Temperature was usually around down to -6. It's a cold temperature but counts as warm for winter. You might know that there wasn't enough snow for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics! The temperature wasn't cold enough for enough snow.

Yukon's climate is similar to the climate of Alaska's interior. The winters can be brutally cold; in fact, the coldest North American temperature (excluding the Arctic Ocean islands) ever recorded was -70 F. at Snag, Yukon in the late 1940's. Winter typically begins by mid-October and can last well into May. Spring is short with

temperatures fluctuating from the 40's to the high 50's. By late June, the transition

from Spring to summer begins with temperatures typically in the 60's. Yukon's summers can be pleasantly warm (well into the 70's), though, it is uncommon for

the thermometer to climb into the 80's.

In some regions there is plenty of of precipitation while in the valleys on the lee side of the mountains, there are drier climes.
